168 China according to Moscow

The Communist International, which since its establishment in 1919 focused primarily on Western Europe, soon became involved in the political developments in the fledgling republic of China and here, too, supported the new Soviet state. As a Comintern agent, Henk Sneevliet (1883-1942) steered the Chinese Communist Party founded in his presence in 1921 toward a convergence with the republican Kuomintang, which materialized in 1923 but resulted in brutal repression of the communists in 1927.
