73 The image of Provo

Since early 1962 Grootveld regarded Amsterdam as the Magical Centre. Together with Bart Huges (1934-2004), who attempted through trepanation to acquire a ‘third eye,’ he devised the ‘gnot’ symbol, the cross-section of an apple with a stem and a dot, depicting the Magical Centre. Later, when he was building floating gardens, Grootveld produced this triptych, which was presented to the IISH in 2007.
