38 Socialdemocrats gathered

After years of being prohibited, German social democrats in 1891 once again convened a public congress in Erfurt, where a new programme was adopted that would become internationally important. The plan by Karl Kautsky (1854-1938), from which this page derives, was a major component. It aligned the new text closer to the ideas of Marx and distanced them from those of Lassalle, even though radical-theoretical elements coincided with more moderate practical demands for reform.
