27 The year of revolution 1848
In 1848 in addition to major change occurring in France and Chartism reaching its peak in England, revolutions broke out in the German lands. Until the First World War erased all other memories, they inspired the German socialists, for example at the golden anniversary in 1898. This picture postcard commemorates the armed uprising in Baden and depicts fighting in Freiburg, Mannheim, and Rastatt, as well as the leaders Friedrich Hecker (1811-1881) and Gustave von Strube (1805-1870).
