46 The Spanish Civil War
Solidaridad Obrera, published in Barcelona, was the main anarchist daily during the Spanish Civil War, which broke out in July 1936 and became a veritable revolution for the anarcho-syndicalists of the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo. The IISH has about 2,000 photographs from the Soli archive, which was rescued from Franco in the nick of time in 1939.
