8 The prosperity of Holland

Interest van Hollandt, ofte Gronden van Hollandts Welvaren was also first published in 1662. De la Court advocated unrestricted immigration as a foundation for national prosperity. This book was based on the work ‘Het welvaaren der Stadt Leyden,’ which was circulated only as a manuscript and was not published until 1911. It first appeared in 1659-1660 and is believed to have been written by Pieter together with his brother Johan (1622-1660). The NEHA holds three copies from the eighteenth century.
