Russians
In 1804 a Russian warship entered Nagasaki harbor. A delegation under Nicolai Rezanov, envoy of the czar, also wanted to obtain trading rights. The captain of the ship was Adam Johann Krusenstern, for whom the trip to Japan was only the first stage in an expedition to circumnavigate the Earth.
The mission failed completely. The Russians were not willing to hand in their weapons or to approach the Japanese authorities crawling on hands and feet, like the Dutch did.
