Het systematisch en analytisch beschouwen van arbeid was beslist geen Frans monopolie, zoals het werk van de Engelse scheepsbouwer William Sutherland bewijst. In twee boeken uit 1717, de Prices of Labour in Ship-Building, laat hij zien dat hij zich bewust is van het feit hoe belangrijk de arbeidskosten zijn. Hij probeert deze in zijn werken ook zo nauwkeurig mogelijk te berekenen.
Het exemplaar uit de Akademiebibliotheek - waaruit hier het portret van koning George, omgeven door schepen, wordt getoond - combineert het eerste deel uit 1717 met het tweede uit 1729 en is verder nergens in Nederland aanwezig. Ook dit boek is afkomstig uit het legaat van admiraal Van Kinsbergen.
