The Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) officially declared war on Turkey in 1984 and started a holiday boycott campaign during the '90s: 'Every pound spent by a tourist supports the genocide of the Kurds financially.' The Kurds in Northern Iraq try to promote tourism to this mountainous area.
