Guide to the Asian Collections at the IISH
Reflecting Asia's enlarged role on the world stage the IISH decided to foreground Asia in its activities and in 1996 established an Asia Department which deals with the social history and the history of progressive and emancipatory political movement in Asia.
In recent years the IISH has been able to acquire many unique documents from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Burma and Indonesia. Among these is a large collection of periodicals in Bengali, a unique collection of Chinese propaganda posters, archives of Suparna Sastradiredja and Oei Tjoe Tat, and a oral history project on the Naxalbari movement.
This guide presents a survey of collections at the IISH with a substantial Asian interest and aims to direct researchers toward historical material on Asia.
