The fruits of the bumper harvest attract attention first, but the message is that the employee in the state fruit shop will serve her customers with pleasure. The slogans on the wall read 'initiative, enthusiasm, patience, politeness'. In the era of the Cultural Revolution, a poster like this would have been inconceivable: customers were to treat state shop employees with a certain amount of submission to get anything done.
