Frontispice of Instructions secrètes des Jésuites: Monita secreta Societatis Jesu, ed Charles Sauvestre, 15th expanded ed, Paris: E. Dentu, 1879.
This copy is from the collection of Max Nettlau, acquired by IISH in 1935. The illustration is supposed to reproduce a painting that once hung in the church of the Jesuits at Billom, near Clermont-Ferrand. François Ravaillac, who is seen entering Heaven in the upper left corner, was the murderer of the French king Henry IV (1610), who is seen, lower left, among the heretics and the damned.
